Refined Rebel is a free space for thought and expression. I'm going to take it a little further by featuring some vulnerable and intimate pieces to open this space up a little more. Essentially what my writing does for me is it helps me heal and let go of what weighs me down. It's a process in alchemy of the self that I've been practicing for many years. One of my favourite quotes (although there are many) is by the great Bob Marley "Don't gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver and gold". Yes of course there are many ways to interpret these words and debate their validity in a society that places value on material wealth above all else. The reality is that without economic resources it is difficult to achieve certain goals. But what good will any amount of silver or gold get you when that same value is not reflected in your inner world? With everything that has unfolded globally it's impossible to not revisit how and what we prioritize in our lives. I've always preferred to acquire richness in wisdom before anything else, knowing that the rest will follow. I flow from the soul, it's just how I roll. So here we go...
Time works in a non linear fashion for me. As do my poetry and lyrical word flows. It starts with a little flicker of inspiration usually triggered by a single word or vision but quickly expands into a whole collection of words and concepts sprawled out over time and space. It's hard to even pinpoint a beginning, instead it feels like an infinite frequency that flows through me and tells a story reflected on a grander scale. At times these reflections mirror back in the shadow form which can be painful and unpleasant but is a sure reminder to draw more light into yourself and heal further. I use my words as affirmations and as a way to curate the energy I'm connected to - we'll talk about this another time in a dedicated editorial, stay tuned!
We had an astrological alignment this week called the Lion's Gate Portal (8/8). Its one that's been very special to me and to many for centuries, most popularly linked to ancient Egypt. In short, this cosmic event is the alignment of Sirius A - a star in the Canis Major constellation, and brightest star in our night sky revered by spiritual communities as our "spiritual sun" and the three stars in Orion's belt, over the pyramids in Giza. Ok, so what does this mean? It served as a symbolic new beginning and year for many civilizations in Africa. It marked the return of life, fertility, growth, rebirth, and divine feminine energy through the flooding of the Nile River. Now, what does it mean to me? Well it kind of means the exact same thing to me as it did to the network of civilizations that stood witness to this heightened cosmic force centuries ago. It reminds me to access the pools of creative life force within myself and to let them flood out of me so that I too can symbolically bring life, hope, light, growth, and higher knowledge forth. Coincidentally (or not at all) all of my writing, projects, and ventures have been coming together with this energy beautifully - I wish I could say I planned it this way but I didn't, yet somehow everything connects. I just flow from the soul.
